Seneca Lake Marina Update; Wednesday, June 11, 2014

 Items of Interest…..

A lot is going on and it seems that time is passing far too quickly. It is hard to believe that we (the marina) have now been open for two months. Many positive things to note along with a not-so-positive….

On the down side the new bathroom doors have been giving us some problems. The way that they had been programmed allowed other persons to enter the bathrooms even after the dead bolt had been set. They should be reprogrammed prior to this weekend. They will be set so that the deadbolt deactivates the key pad.

The marina is rapidly closing in on 100% occupancy

Business has been brisk at the Dockside restaurant which will observe it’s one year anniversary this weekend. They are now operating under the new schedule of 8 until 6, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Open 8 to 8 on Friday and Saturday. An ATM machine has been installed in the restaurant. Dockside is also operating the concession stand at the beach. The concessions stand is called “Annie B’s”. See the attached menu too see their food offering.

Just prior to the Memorial Day holiday the new  “Dockside Sweet Treats” made its debut on the restaurant patio… cream, shakes and novelties are available to refresh you on those hot summer days.

We have lots of new items in the gift shop and store at the entrance to the restaurant. Darlene Ellis tells me that sales have been brisk. A line of new wine glasses along with an extended line of “Seneca Lake” branded clothing is available. Our refrigerated items have been downsized but we still carry fresh milk, bacon, hot dogs, orange juice and eggs in addition to other staples. Darlene is joined by sales clerk Sherry M. upstairs. We also do fishing licenses and boat registrations at the upstairs register

We have also been reconfiguring some docks in order to provide a courtesy (2 hour) dock  for transient visitors along with restaurant customers; transient (overnight) docks and a new dual purpose dock adjacent to the launch ramp providing launch ramp users with a place to temporarily tie up their boats along with several docks in which to place boats awaiting service.

After our last email update, Kelly responded with a request for a porta-john on far side of the facility. A not unreasonable request that we promptly addressed. The unit is supposed to be serviced once a week by the provided. We will try to check it daily when we pick up the trash. Like with all things, if there is a problem let us know.

We have also made some changes in the hours of the service department. Instead of all the service staff being off on Sundays and Mondays the new schedule provides a mechanic on duty seven days a week from 8 until 4:30. Service Manager Marilyn Roe is also available on both Saturday and Sunday. Marilyn coordinates service with mechanics Rick Winegar and Chip Wilson.

Jake (aka Jacob Zink) has retuned downstairs following his junior year at Ohio University. Several new faces joined us this summer in the downstairs bait, rentals and fuel dock area. High school juniors Kyle Harper and Brady Neuhart  are on board along Zach Winiesdorffer. who is also a student at OU and Christopher (Chris) Poe a student at Kent State.

You will soon notice all employees, veterans and “newbies” alike will be sporting official MWCD picture identification tags. This will assist patrons in identifying employees.

The June events calendar is attached. Activities Coordinator Linda Johnson-Davis reports that the FREE kayaking on Saturdays is very popular. Did we tell you that it is FREE. If you are planning to go please arrive early as it will be handled on a first come, first served basis. Check out the Park’s Facebook page for great photos from the crafts class’s, pancake breakfast and this past Saturday’ s well-attended “Safety Day.  Kudu’s to all of our  local emergency responders for attending  this interesting and valuable event.

All for today…..thank you for choosing Seneca Lake Marina….
